Florida's tax-free holiday in 2025 includes two main sales tax holidays approved by the legislature:
- Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday (August 1–31, 2025):
- Clothing, footwear, wallets, bags, handbags, backpacks, fanny packs, and diaper bags priced at $100 or less per item
- School supplies priced at $50 or less per item
- Learning aids and jigsaw puzzles priced at $30 or less
- Personal computers and certain computer-related accessories priced at $1,500 or less, purchased for noncommercial home or personal use (includes calculators, desktops, e-book readers, handhelds, laptops, tablets, tower computers, keyboards, mice, modems, monitors, software, PDAs, routers)
- Excludes items such as briefcases, watches, jewelry, umbrellas, skis, swim fins, clothing over the price limit, books not otherwise exempt, cell phones, video game consoles, and commercial use computers
- The holiday lasts the entire month of August
- Hunting, Fishing, and Camping Sales Tax Holiday (September 8–December 31, 2025):
- Hunting supplies
- Ammunition and firearms accessories
- Firearms including pistols, rifles, and shotguns using an explosive charge for propulsion
- Bows, crossbows, and qualifying accessories
- Camping supplies including tents priced up to $200, camping stoves, collapsible chairs, portable hammocks, and sleeping bags priced $50 or less
- Camping lanterns and flashlights priced $30 or less
- Fishing supplies including rods and reels priced $150 or less (for sets) or $75 or less (individual), tackle boxes or bags priced $30 or less, bait or fishing tackle priced $10 or less (sets) or $5 or less (individual)
- This holiday is the longest tax break period for outdoor gear in Florida
Additionally, Florida established permanent sales tax exemptions (effective July 1, 2025) on several essential items such as:
- Various sizes of batteries (AA, AAA, C, D, 6-volt, 9-volt)
- Smoke detectors, smoke alarms, carbon monoxide detectors
- Portable generators (subject to limits)
- Waterproof tarps
- Ground anchor systems and tie-down kits
- Fuel containers of 5 gallons or less
- All bicycle helmets (no size restriction)
- Sunscreen and insect repellent
- Life jackets
- Admission to Florida State Parks
These exemptions help families save on safety, outdoor, and preparedness items year-round.
