Inktober is a month-long art challenge created by artist Jake Parker in 2009 to improve his inking skills and develop positive drawing habits. It has since grown into a worldwide endeavor with thousands of artists taking on the challenge every year. The challenge takes place every October, and the goal is to create a different ink drawing every day of the month. The official rules for Inktober are:

  1. Make a drawing in ink (you can do a pencil under-drawing if you want).
  2. Post it online.
  3. Hashtag it with #inktober and #inktober2023.
  4. Repeat.

Anyone can participate in Inktober, and there are no restrictions on the type of ink or paper used. The challenge is not a contest to see who the best artist is, but rather a framework to improve drawing skills, flex a little, and have fun with art. The official prompt lists for Inktober started in 2016, but prior to that, people came up with their own ideas for each day.

Inktober is about growing and improving and forming positive habits, so the more consistent one is, the better. There are two ways to participate: one can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week. The point is to share ones art with someone.

The official Inktober 2023 prompt list was released on September 1, 2023. The challenge starts on October 1, 2023, and the last drawing should be posted on October 31, 2023.
