Innate personality refers to the intrinsic or inherent qualities that a person possesses and remains relatively stable across their lifetime. Personality is innate, while character is acquired. Personality traits are mostly stable and unchangeable throughout a persons life, while character can change. Innate personality traits are intrinsic or inherent to the person, and they remain permanently in the candidate. Personality tests can measure many different traits, but the most established personality test framework uses what is called the "Big Five" or "Five Factor Model". These are the five dimensions of personality that consistently emerge in empirical research: Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Openness (to Experience), and Stress Tolerance. Some innate personality traits that people may not be able to change, at least not easily, include empathy, introversion/extroversion, need for belonging, and resiliency. Although innate personality traits are determined by genetics, biological, social, and psychological environmental influences can drastically change a persons personality for better or for worse.
