Insight is a skill in Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) that reflects a characters ability to read people or situations. It is a Wisdom-based skill that allows a player to determine the true intentions of a creature, such as when searching out a lie or predicting behavior. When a player rolls a Wisdom (Insight) check, they are searching for signs that the NPC is lying or are trying to determine the NPCs true intentions. The Insight skill is useful for bringing a new dimension of immersion into the game, and there are many situations in which it can be useful. For example, a player can use Insight to comprehend intent and decipher body language during social interactions. While any character is capable of making an Insight check, some will generally have a better insight than others. Clerics, Druids, Monks, and Rangers will typically have a solid bonus to their Insight skill due to their Wisdom scores. The Insight skill is commonly used only to determine the truth of NPC dialogue, but its capable of revealing so much more.
