Jalsa Salana is a formal, annual gathering of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community initiated by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, the founder of the community, in Qadian, India. The gathering usually spans three days and is attended by members of the community from around the world. The name "Jalsa Salana" means "peace gathering". The Jalsa Salana has developed to become central to the communitys major events around the world. The initial venue remained in Qadian, India for many years, but as the community became international in its scope, such conventions began to be held elsewhere. Jalsa Salana is not an ordinary convention, and it carries a great deal of significance for millions of Ahmadi Muslims. The purpose of the annual convention includes increasing ones communion with Allah, praying for those brothers who have passed away, meeting new members and increasing in Brotherhood, and gaining knowledge and insight into the teachings of Islam.
