The Kama Sutra is an ancient Indian Sanskrit text on sexuality, eroticism, and emotional fulfillment in life. It is an integral part of the religious milieu in Hinduism and quite prevalent in its temples. Contrary to popular belief, the Kama Sutra is not only a book about lovemaking and different sex positions. It covers other topics such as the art of living well, the nature of love, finding a life partner, and taking care of your love life. Scholars see the Kama Sutra as a guide on the art of living, from finding a partner to personal grooming and etiquette in both marriage and worldly affairs. According to Hindu scriptures, kama (pleasure) is one of the four goals of life, and the Kama Sutra was written as a guide to achieving kama, in particular, physical pleasure. Although erotic sexual positions comprise a large portion of the text, other topics covered by the Kama Sutra include proper grooming and self-care, etiquette, including appropriate post-coital conversation, and the practice of the occult. The Kama Sutra is neither exclusively nor predominantly a sex manual on sex positions, but rather was written as a guide to the art of living well, the nature of love, finding a life partner, maintaining ones love life, and other aspects pertaining to pleasure-oriented faculties of human life.
