Kindle lockscreen ads are advertisements that appear on the lock screen of Kindle E-readers and Fire tablets. They are personalized and interest-targeted ads that promote eBooks directly to customers most likely to buy them. The ads are displayed as a screensaver when the device is in sleep mode and on the home screen marked as "Sponsored". If a user taps on the ad, they are sent to the books detail page, where they can easily purchase and download the title. Kindle lockscreen ads are only available in the US.
Kindle devices are available with or without ads, and the ads are effectively the lock screen wallpaper, showing users eBooks and products that Amazon thinks they will want to buy. If a user chooses to purchase a Kindle with ads, they will see a new ad each time they view the lock screen, and the ads are not too intrusive. However, if a user wants to remove the ads, they can do so by making a one-time payment to cover the difference between the device price with and without lockscreen ads.
