In the context of the Aditya-L1 mission, L1 refers to the Lagrange Point 1 of the Sun-Earth system. This is a location in space where the gravitational forces of the Sun and Earth are in equilibrium, allowing an object placed there to remain relatively stable with respect to both celestial bodies. Aditya-L1 is a spacecraft designed and developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and various other Indian research institutes to study the solar atmosphere. It is placed in a halo orbit around the L1 point, which is approximately 1.5 million km from Earth, and continuously views the Sun without any occultation or eclipses.
