Lagundi, also known as Vitex negundo, is a large aromatic shrub with quadrangular, densely whitish, tomentose branchlets. It is traditionally used in folk medicine to treat insect and snake bites, ulcers, rheumatism, sore throat, cough, fever, and respiratory-related illnesses such as asthma. Lagundi has been used for centuries by local populations in the Philippines for its medicinal properties. The Philippine Department of Health has conducted research and study for Lagundi and has suggested that the lagundi plant has a number of verifiable therapeutic value and health benefits to man. Lagundi is also used as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic in cases of rheumatism, arthritis, muscle pains, headache, and fever. The plant has been clinically validated and transformed into a safe, scientifically validated herbal drug. Lagundi is widely used in Ayurveda and in Chinese medicine, according to specific areas or communities.
