Locomotor disability refers to any condition that restricts a persons ability to move from one place to another, particularly in the legs. It is also known as mobility disability and can be caused by a variety of factors, including diseases, injuries, and congenital conditions. Some common causes of locomotor disability include:
- Amputation (removal of limb or a part of it)
- Paralysis
- Cerebral Palsy
- Muscular dystrophy
- Short stature/dwarfism
- Neurological conditions
- Cardiopulmonary diseases
Locomotor disability can result in difficulties in executing activities of daily living related to lower limb function. It is often measured by evaluating functional impairment. In India, locomotor disability is recognized as a type of physical disability that results in a persons inability to execute distinctive activities associated with movement of self and objects.
