Lost Mode is a feature available on iPhones, iPads, iPod touches, Macs, Apple Watches, supported AirPods, and iPhone Wallet with MagSafe that allows users to lock their device and track its location when it is lost or stolen. When Lost Mode is activated, the device is locked, and a customizable message is displayed on the lock screen. The device is also put into Low Power mode, which increases its battery life, and Location Services is turned on, even if it was previously turned off.
If the device is offline when Lost Mode is enabled, it will be marked as "Pending" until it comes back online. Once the device is marked as lost, a confirmation email is sent to the users Apple ID email address, and the user can update their contact information. If the device is found, Lost Mode can be turned off by entering the device passcode or disabling it from the users iCloud account.
Lost Mode can be initiated by the user from their iCloud account or by the IT admin of an organization using Mobile Device Manager Plus. In the latter case, the device is put into complete lockdown, and the most recent location of the device can be viewed on the MDM server. A customized message can also be displayed on the screen, requesting the device to be returned to the owner.
