The Mahadev betting scam is an illegal online betting and gaming platform that operates through a network of closed groups on various instant messaging platforms. The platform enables users to place bets on a wide range of games and events, including poker, card games, badminton, tennis, football, and cricket. The company is owned by Sourabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, who allegedly provided online avenues for illegal betting on live games, including cricket, tennis, badminton, poker, and card games. The Mahadev online book betting application is linked to a syndicate that facilitates online platforms for unlawful betting websites. The company reportedly rakes in an astounding Rs 200 crore daily and has been active for the past four years. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is currently investigating the case and has filed chargesheets against the promoters and 12 others. The agency alleges that the duo Chandrakar and Uppal are the masterminds of the alleged scam and operate the platform out of a central head office in the UAE. The proceeds of the crime in the case are estimated to be around INR 6,000 Cr, of which the agency has already provisionally attached INR 41 Cr in the case so far. The ED has also summoned several Bollywood celebrities, including Ranbir Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor, Huma Qureshi, and Kapil Sharma, for questioning in the case. The investigation is expected to center around the alleged political links of the promoters of the betting app, and there is evidence to suggest that certain cops in the state of Chhattisgarh allegedly colluded with the accused in the scandal.
