A master bedroom is a term used to describe the largest bedroom in a house or apartment, typically occupied by the person or persons who head the household. It is usually larger and more luxuriously decorated than other bedrooms, and may include a bed of a specific size (double, king or queen-sized), one or more dressers, a nightstand, one or more closets, and carpeting. In some cases, a master bedroom may be connected to a dedicated bathroom, often called an ensuite or master bathroom. The term "master bedroom" has been used for many years, but it has recently come under scrutiny due to its ties to slavery and the concept of dominance and ownership. Some real estate professionals have started to phase out the term altogether and use alternative terms such as "primary bedroom" or "owners suite".
