Maulidur Rasul, also known as Mawlid or Eid-e-Milad an-Nabi, is an observation of the day when the Islamic prophet Muhammad is reported to have been born. It is celebrated on the 12th day of the third month of the Islamic calendar, which is Rabi al-Awwal. While Sunni Muslims often celebrate it on this date, Shi’a Muslims usually celebrate it on the 17th day of the month.

In some Islamic countries, Maulidur Rasul is a public holiday in which many governmental agencies, businesses, and other agencies are closed. However, some Muslims believe that the observance of birthdays, even of the Prophet’s birthday, is a violation of Islamic law.

Mawlid is celebrated in almost all Islamic countries, and in other countries that have a significant Muslim population, such as Ethiopia, India, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Nigeria, Cote dlvoire, Iraq, Iran, Maldives, Morocco, Jordan, Libya, Russia, Canada, and Malaysia. In Malaysia, it is referred to as “Mawlid” or “Maulidur Rasul”, and is marked as a national public holiday.

Muslims commemorate this day by sending their blessings to Prophet Muhammad with recitations of praises. The day is also marked by various customs and traditions, such as reading the Quran, holding parades, and distributing food to the poor.
