The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a personality test that categorizes people into one of 16 personality types based on their preferences and how they perceive their surroundings, interact with people, and deal with situations. The MBTI was developed by Katherine Cook Briggs and Isabel Briggs Myers in 1943 and was widely used among companies to analyze their employees. However, due to its weak points, such as poor validity and reliability, it is now more commonly used among the general population for fun. In Korea, the MBTI has become a popular online meme and almost everyone has taken the test to find out their personality type or to introduce their MBTI type to other people. The MBTI is used in many situations in Korea, such as during a blind date or a first date, when Koreans meet for the first time, or even during job interviews to help hiring managers see if candidates are suitable for their companys culture. The MBTI is even incorporated into Korean variety shows to appeal to the younger audience. The MBTI approach to dating appeals to the practicality of the "MZ Generation" (a combination of Millennials and Gen Z) in Korea, as they see it as an efficient way to find out if a person suits them well. In Korea, MBTI is now the first thing you learn about someone along with their name, and it is not uncommon to see Koreans have their MBTIs included in their Instagram profiles. Some job applications even list an MBTI type under the job requirements, and some ask that you attach a screenshot of recent MBTI test results in your application to prove you fulfill the personality requirements.
