A computer is an electronic device that can store, process, and retrieve data. It accepts information in the form of digitalized data and manipulates it for some result based on a program, software, or sequence of instructions on how the data is to be processed. A computer can perform a variety of tasks, such as storing, organizing, and finding words, numbers, and pictures, doing calculations, and controlling other machines. There are many types of computers, including desktop computers, laptops, netbooks, mainframe computers, microcomputers, and analog and digital computers. All computers have two things in common: hardware and software. The hardware is the physical part of the computer that we can see and touch, including input and output devices and the processor chip itself. The software is the set of instructions that tell the computer what to do.
