Microfleece is a type of fleece fabric made from polyester, which is thinner and lighter than regular fleece. If the fleece fabric weighs 200 grams per square meter (gsm) or less, then its considered microfleece. Both fleece and microfleece are warm, moisture-wicking, light, and breathable fabrics. However, microfleece is a little more breathable and moisture-wicking than regular fleece due to the thinness of the fibers. Microfleece is useful in making activewear like gym clothes, outdoor clothing, sweaters, etc. It is also the thinnest and most lightweight type of fleece, providing the lowest level of insulation yet the highest breathability. Microfleece is ideal for active pursuits in weather that isn’t too cold, as it allows for the greatest flexibility when doing physical exercise.
