A micropipette is a laboratory instrument used to measure and transfer small volumes of liquids accurately and precisely, typically in the microliter range. They are commonly used in microbiology, chemistry, medical and soil testing laboratories for the precise transfer of different liquid samples. Micropipettes are available in different types, including adjustable or fixed, single-channel or multi-channel or repeater, adjustable tip spacing, conical tips or cylindrical tips, standard or locking, manual or electronic, and with different volume ranges. The main parts of a micropipette include a plunger button, tip ejector button, volume adjustment dial, digital volume indicator, shaft, and attachment point for a disposable tip. Micropipettes use disposable pipette tips to aspirate liquid, and the tip is the only part of the pipette that makes contact with the solution. A new tip is utilized for every sample to prevent cross-contamination. Micropipettes are operated manually based on a piston-shaft spring mechanism or electronically. They are essential tools used in microbiology labs, medical labs, and environmental sciences for various academic and research studies.
