Militant is an adjective used to describe someone who is vigorously active, combative, and often willing to use force, especially in support of a cause. It can also be used as a noun to refer to a person who uses militant methods in pursuit of an objective. The term is not associated with the military, and it can be used to describe anyone who subscribes to the idea of using vigorous, sometimes extreme, activity to achieve an objective, usually political.
