As of January 1, 2023, the national minimum wage in Ireland for people aged 20 and over is €11.30 per hour. However, the minimum wage is set to increase to €12.70 per hour from January 1, 2024, according to a recommendation by the Low Pay Commission. The current minimum wage was last increased by 80 cents in 2022. Different rates of pay apply to certain sectors, and people aged under 20 receive sub-minimum rates. If an employer provides food or accommodation, the following amounts are included in the minimum wage calculation: board rates of €1.01 per hour and lodging rates of €26.07 per week or €3.81 per day. Employers must pay a minimum wage to work experience placements, work trials, internships, and any other employment practice involving unpaid work or working for room and board.
