Effective January 1, 2023, the minimum wage in New Jersey is $14.13 per hour for most workers. This rate is greater than the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. However, there are some exceptions to this rate. For example, small employers with fewer than 6 employees have a lower minimum wage rate of $12.70 per hour. Agricultural employers also have a lower minimum wage rate, which will increase to $12.81 per hour in January 2023. Tipped employees must receive the same hourly wage rates as above, but employers may take a tip-credit and pay less than the minimum wage rate so long as tips make up the difference.
