MLD stands for "Mechanical Locking Differential" and it is a part of the standard equipment list of the Mahindra Thar, an SUV manufactured by Mahindra. The MLD is a purely mechanical part that channels torque to the wheel with the most traction to help the SUV out of tough off-road trails. It was standard on all variants of the Mahindra Thar until November 2022, when Mahindra removed it from the standard equipment list and made it optional. The MLD was placed at the rear axle and operated by a switch on the dashboard.
