Moral action refers to a behavior that is physically enacted or lived out and which has a moral consequence or motivation. It is an action that is freely chosen and comes into existence through our exercise of reason and will. A moral act must be our own act; it must spring from our own will. If we act mechanically, there is no moral content in our act. For an act to be morally good, ones intention must be good. The morality of a human act depends primarily and fundamentally on the object, understood as the intentional act. The three elements of a moral act are the objective act, the intention, and the circumstances. The object is an action that is rationally and freely chosen by the will. It is an intentional kind of behavior or thought. Morally wrong acts are activities such as murder, theft, rape, lying, and breaking promises. Morally right acts are activities that are allowed. They include the morally neutral, the morally obligatory, and the morally supererogatory. Morally supererogatory acts are those morally right activities that are especially praiseworthy and even heroic. They go beyond what duty requires.
