MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging, which is a noninvasive medical imaging technique that uses a magnetic field and radio waves to produce detailed images of almost every internal structure in the human body, including the organs, bones, muscles, and blood vessels. It is often used for disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment monitoring. Some of the specific uses of MRI include:

• Checking for tumors or other irregularities in many organs in the body, including the liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, uterus, ovaries, and prostate.
• Looking for joint issues caused by traumatic or repetitive injuries, such as torn cartilage or ligaments, disk problems in the spine, bone infections, and tumors of the bones and soft tissues.
• Investigating or diagnosing conditions that affect soft tissue, such as tumors, soft tissue injuries, joint injury or disease, spinal injury or disease, and injury or disease of internal organs including the brain, heart, and digestive organs.

MRI scans are painless and do not use x-rays or other radiation. During the scan, the patient lies on a table that slides inside a tunnel-shaped machine, and the MRI machine makes a lot of noise. The technician may offer earplugs, and its important to keep as still as possible during the scan.
