MS stands for multiple sclerosis, which is a neurological condition that affects the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. In MS, the immune system attacks the protective coating on nerve fibers called myelin, which can lead to a range of symptoms. Some common symptoms of MS include loss of vision, loss of power in an arm or leg, sensory disturbance in an arm or leg, spasms, fatigue, depression, incontinence issues, sexual dysfunction, and walking difficulties. There is currently no single test to diagnose MS, but doctors look for typical symptoms of the disease, such as loss of vision in an eye, loss of power in an arm or leg, or sensory disturbance in an arm or leg lasting for more than 24 hours. MS is a chronic disease that affects people differently, and there is no known cure.
