Determining your eye shape can help you choose the right makeup techniques to enhance your natural features. There are many different eye shapes, including almond, round, monolid, hooded, upturned, and downturned. Here are some characteristics of each eye shape:
-
Almond Eyes: When you look straight ahead at the mirror, if you cant see the whites of your eyes below the iris, you have almond-shaped eyes. This eye shape has a visible crease and ends that taper off at the tear duct and outer point. Theyre wider than other shapes, with smaller lids.
-
Round Eyes: Round eyes have a visible crease that you can spot easily. The whites above or below the iris show, making them look more prominent and noticeable. These eyes also dont taper or pull inward or outward at the outer or inner corners.
-
Monolid Eyes: Monolid eyes don’t have a defined crease, and they don’t reveal as much of the eyelid as other eye shapes do. If the crease is not visible when your eyes are open, then your eye shape is monolid.
-
Hooded Eyes: If you have a crease that is not visible due to a skin flap, you have hooded eyes. The upper lid hangs down slightly, and the natural crease appears hidden, and there is very little visible lid space between the lash line and crease.
-
Upturned Eyes: If the outer corners of your eyes are above a straight, horizontal line extending through the centers of both eyes, you have upturned eyes.
-
Downturned Eyes: If the outer corners of your eyes are below the line, you have downturned eyes.
It is possible to have a combination of eye shapes, and some people even have two different eye shapes. To determine your eye shape, look straight into a level mirror and take notice of how much of your moving lid and crease you see. Take a look at the top of your eyelid and determine if there is a crease or not. Knowing your eye shape can help you determine which makeup looks will bring out the best in your eyes.
