Ping is a measure of the reaction time of your internet connection, or how quickly you receive a response when a request is made. It is measured in milliseconds (ms), and the lower the ping number, the faster your connection. Ping is important during real-time application use like video streaming or online gaming. High ping values may be observed in case of overloaded routers, links, or servers.
Ping rates can vary based on several things like the quality of your internet connection, distance between the server and your computer, and quality of physical connection with the modem or router. Ideally, you’re looking for a ping of 50 – 100ms, and anything below 25ms is considered exceptional. Die-hard gamers are working for a latency ping of about 10 – 15ms, and anything above 150ms is noticeable and considered a poor ping rate.
There are several online tools available to check your ping, including Meter.net, Ping-test.net, and Bandwidth Place.
