MyMedicare.gov is Medicares free, secure, online service for managing personal information regarding Original Medicare benefits and services. It is a service provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that allows Original Medicare beneficiaries to create an account to keep all of their personal health-care information confidential.
To set up an account, you will need to provide your Medicare number (found on your Medicare card), mailing address, date of birth, and effective date for Medicare Part A. Once you have created an account, you can access your information anytime, including a summary of your current coverage and a list of your drugs and pharmacies.
MyMedicare.gov also offers additional features such as:
- On the Go Report: A report that summarizes your medical information for your doctors.
- Security: Your health information on MyMedicare.gov is made available to you through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and CMS guidelines are followed for handling your personal health data and maintaining your privacy.
- Medicare Supplement Insurance (Medigap): A policy that can help pay some of the remaining health care costs, like copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Some Medigap policies also cover services that Original Medicare doesnt cover, like emergency medical care when you travel outside the U.S..
It is important to remember to protect your personal information, including your Social Security number, from unlawful access. Always log out of your MyMedicare.gov account after you are finished with your session, do not share your login information with anyone, and keep your username and password stored in a safe place.
