The ANCHOR program is a property tax relief program for New Jersey residents who own or rent property in New Jersey as their principal residence and meet certain income limits. The program provides benefits based on 2020 residency, income, and age, and the current filing season for the ANCHOR benefit is based on 2020 residency, income, and age. Homeowners who had 2019 gross incomes of up to $150,000 will get up to $1,500. Those with gross incomes between $150,000 and $250,000 will get up to $1,000. Renters with 2019 gross incomes of $150,000 or less will receive $450. The ANCHOR benefit is based on 2020 residency, income, and age, and the deadline for filing the ANCHOR benefit application has been extended to February 28, 2023. Payments will be issued using the information on file, and ANCHOR payments will be paid in the form of a direct deposit or check, not as credits to property tax bills. If you received the ANCHOR Benefit Confirmation Letter notifying you that you qualify and you do nothing else, the application will be filed for you and the benefit will be paid based on information in that letter. However, if you need to change any information, you have until September 30, 2023, to file an application on your own.
