In cribbage, nobs is a term used to refer to the Jack of the same suit as the turn-up card. If a player holds the Jack of the same suit as the turn-up card, they score an extra point in their hand, known as "one for nobs" or "one for his nob". The term "nobs" is believed to be British English slang for an important person, but the origin of the term is not entirely clear. Nobs is also a required component of the highest possible hand in cribbage of 29, where a player has three 5s and a Jack that matches the turn-up card, which is also a 5. Without nobs, the hand would only be worth 28 points.
