The National Eligibility Test (NET) is a test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for the post of Assistant Professor as well as Junior Research Fellowship and Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges. The UGC-NET is being conducted by the NTA in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode since December 2018 onwards. The exam is conducted twice every year, in June and December. The UGC-NET exam is held for a total of 83 subjects. Candidates who qualify the eligibility test for Assistant Professorship are governed by the rules and regulations of the concerned Universities/Colleges/State Governments, as the case may be for recruitment of Assistant Professor. The exam consists of two papers designed to test candidates’ eligibility for various teaching and research posts in government institutions. The UGC NET syllabus differs for all 83 subjects and is prescribed by the University Grants Commission itself. Successful candidates would be able to download their e-certificates and award letters online at ugcnet.nta.nic.in.
