NVR stands for Network Video Recorder, which is a computer system that records video footage and stores it on a hard disk, a mass storage device, or cloud storage. NVRs are paired with digital internet protocol (IP) cameras to create a video surveillance system. The main difference between NVR and DVR (Digital Video Recorder) systems is how they communicate and transmit video data. DVR systems process data at the recorder, while NVR systems encode and process data at the camera before transmitting it to the recorder for storage and remote viewing. NVRs are newer technology and offer more convenience and advanced features than DVRs. NVRs are more flexible to work with because they can be connected to multiple machines in different locations over a switch, while DVRs are less flexible because they connect to analog cameras via a coaxial cable.
