ODF Plus is a term used in Indias Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) to describe a village that has sustained its Open Defecation Free (ODF) status and has implemented either solid or liquid waste management systems. The ODF Plus criteria include a checklist for declaration, which includes ensuring that the village is visually clean. As of September 2023, more than 4.43 lakh (443,964) villages in India have declared themselves ODF Plus, which is a significant step towards achieving the SBM-G phase II goals by 2024-25. There are three types of ODF Plus villages:
- ODF Plus Aspiring villages: These are villages that have arrangements for Solid Waste Management or Liquid Waste Management.
- ODF Plus Rising villages: These are villages that have arrangements for both Solid Waste Management and Liquid Waste Management.
- ODF Plus Model villages: These are villages that are sustaining their ODF status and have arrangements for both Solid Waste Management and Liquid Waste Management, and observe visual cleanliness.
It is worth noting that ODF+ and ODF++ are also terms used in Indias Swachh Bharat Mission - Urban (SBM-Urban) to describe cities, wards, or work circles that have achieved certain sanitation milestones.
