Odin is a widely revered god in Germanic paganism and the main god in Norse mythology. He is associated with wisdom, healing, death, poetry, runes, magic, and war. Odin is the ruler of Asgard, the domain of the gods, and is described as the father of all. He is also the god of the dead and rules over Valhalla, the hall of the slain. Odin is depicted as an immensely wise, one-eyed old man with many human traits. He is also known for his shapeshifting abilities and his familiars, two ravens called Hugin and Munin, and two wolves named Geri and Freki. Odin appears as a prominent god throughout the recorded history of Northern Europe, from the Roman occupation of regions of Germania through the Viking Age.
