• Gemstone: Olivine is used as the gemstone for August and is most valued in its bright lime green and dark olive tints. The transparent olive-green to yellow-green variety is known as peridot.

• Fuel: Olivine has been proposed as a supergreen fuel. Rocks rich in olivine can be used for thermal isolation, and their weathering can produce energy.
