OTT stands for "Over The Top". It refers to technology that delivers streamed content over the internet, bypassing traditional cable, broadcast, and satellite television providers. OTT platforms deliver content via the internet across devices including mobile phones, smart TVs, computers, and tablets. The content that is streamed can include video, music, and messaging. The most commonly referred to OTT service is video streaming, with providers such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, Disney+, Hulu, and YouTube. Spotify is considered an OTT platform in the audio streaming space for both music and podcasts, while WhatsApp, Telegram, Slack, and Signal are considered OTT platforms in the internet messaging space. The popularity of OTT viewing has increased with the sharp growth of Netflix when it started showing original content instead of showing old movies and TV shows as it was doing in the beginning.
