Pandering is the act of catering to or profiting from the weaknesses, vices, or unreasonable desires of others. It can also refer to the act of recruiting prostitutes or arranging a situation for another to practice prostitution, which is a criminal offense in most states. Pandering is different from pimping, which refers to collecting money in exchange for sex, while pandering deals with persuasion. The methods used to get someone to act as a prostitute are irrelevant, and any way in which one might convince an individual to prostitute oneself is a form of pandering. Pandering is always processed as a felony and can result in up to six years in prison with additional penalties if the person the defendant is accused of pandering to is a minor.
