PFL can refer to two different things, depending on the context:
-
Paid Family Leave: This is a policy enacted by the state of New York in 2016 to provide eligible employees with job-protected, paid time off to bond with a newly born, adopted or fostered child, care for a family member with a serious health condition, or assist loved ones when a spouse, domestic partner, child or parent is deployed abroad on active military service. The policy was further strengthened in 2021 to expand family care to cover siblings in 2023.
-
Professional Fighters League: This is a mixed martial arts (MMA) league founded in 2017 and launched in 2018. It is the only organization in MMA with a sports-season format, where individual fighters compete in a regular season, playoffs, and championship each year. The PFL fighter roster comes from over 25 countries and 25% of PFL fighters are top 25 world-ranked. The league uses a point system, with wins in a certain round resulting in a certain number of points. The PFL airs primetime live in the U.S. on ESPN and ESPN+ and is broadcast and streamed to 150 countries with over 20 leading international media distribution.
