There are two different events that are referred to as "Pink Day," depending on the context:
-
International Day of Pink: This is a worldwide anti-bullying and anti-homophobia event held annually during the second week of April. It was established by Jers Vision (now Canadian Centre for Gender and Sexual Diversity) in response to a gay Canadian high-school student being bullied for wearing a pink shirt. The two students who witnessed the bullying got everyone at their school to wear pink the following day as a gesture of support, inspiring the creation of the International Day of Pink.
-
National Pink Day: This is a day to celebrate the meaning, history, and beauty of the color pink, and is celebrated on June 23 every year. Pink is commonly associated with femininity, sensitivity, and tenderness, and has been used as a symbol of femininity, grace, and chastity when combined with white. National Pink Day is not related to anti-bullying or anti-homophobia efforts, but rather is a day to celebrate the color pink and its cultural significance.
