Medicare Plan F is a Medicare Supplement Insurance plan that is offered by private companies to cover "gaps" in Original Medicare coverage, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. It is generally regarded as the most comprehensive plan out of the 10 Medicare Supplement plans available in most states. Plan F is only available to Medicare beneficiaries who were eligible for Medicare before January 1, 2020.
Plan F provides extensive coverage for medical services and reduces or eliminates deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. It includes all the benefits of Medicare Supplement Plans A, B, and C, and provides coverage for skilled nursing facility care, Medicare Part A and B deductibles, and international travel medical emergency help. Plan F is one of only two Medicare Supplement insurance plans that cover 100% of Medicare Part B excess charges.
If you choose the high-deductible option, you have to pay a deductible of $2,490 for 2022 before the plan pays anything. After meeting the deductible, the plan begins to pay for Medicare-covered costs.
Plan F is no longer available to individuals new to Medicare on or after January 1, 2020. However, if you were already covered by Plan F before January 1, 2020, you can keep your plan, and if you were eligible for Medicare before that date but havent yet enrolled, you may be able to buy a Plan F policy.
