Post orgasmic illness syndrome (POIS) is a rare condition in which a person develops flu-like and allergy symptoms after orgasm, whether with a partner or through masturbation. POIS attacks occur within a few minutes to a few hours after ejaculation and can include cognitive dysfunction, aphasia, severe muscle pain throughout the body, severe fatigue, weakness, and flu-like or allergy-like symptoms, such as sneezing, itchy eyes, and nasal irritation. The prevalence of POIS is unknown, and it is listed as a rare disease by the American National Institutes of Health. The exact cause of POIS is unknown, but it is most likely an autoimmune disease, and some research suggests it is triggered by specific cytokines that can be released in reaction to a mans seminal fluid. There is no known cure for POIS, but treating it can include addressing physical and mental symptoms of the disease.
