The power of accommodation of the eye is the ability of the eye lens to focus near and far objects clearly on the retina by adjusting its focal length. The process by which certain muscles known as ciliary muscles function to change the focal length of the eyes so that the image is clearly formed on the retina. The power of accommodation for a person with normal eyesight is around 4 diopters (unit of lens power) . The power of accommodation of the eye is limited, and the focal length cannot be altered after a certain limit. The ciliary muscles modify the curving of the lens, which leads to the variation in focal length. The power of accommodation is the power of the eye itself, and it is simply the power of the eye to change its ‘power’ . To test the power of accommodation, one can keep a finger in front of them and try to focus only on the finger. Objects in the background tend to get blurry. Similarly, one can keep a finger in front of them and focus on something in the background. The finger will be blurred.
