Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) is a financial inclusion program launched by the Government of India in 2014. The objective of this program is to ensure access to financial services for all households in the country, including basic savings and deposit accounts, remittance, credit, insurance, and pension facilities. The program aims to bring about comprehensive financial inclusion of all households in the country, both in urban and rural areas. The beneficiaries of this program receive a RuPay Debit card with inbuilt accident insurance cover of Rs. 1 lakh. The program was launched after the failure of previous government schemes, including Swaabhimaan. The slogan of the scheme is "Mera Khaata, Bhagya Vidhata" (meaning "My account, fortune maker") . The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has a structured monitoring mechanism from the central to district level. The program has been successful in opening millions of bank accounts and providing access to financial services to a large number of people in India.
