Private mode on LinkedIn is a feature that allows users to browse profiles anonymously. When a user browses LinkedIn in private mode, their name and other profile information isnt shared with the owners of the profiles they view. Some LinkedIn members, like recruiters and business professionals, choose to browse profiles in private mode to find candidates, sales leads, potential clients, or business partners.
There are two types of private modes on LinkedIn: private mode and semi-private mode. When a user views a profile in private mode, theyll appear in that persons "Whos Viewed Your Profile" section as "LinkedIn Member - This person is viewing profiles in private mode." No other information about the user will be shared with the member whose profile they viewed. In semi-private mode, the users profile characteristics such as job title, company, school, and industry will be shown to the member they are viewing.
To change the browsing mode, users can click the "Me" icon at the top of their LinkedIn homepage, select "Settings & Privacy" from the dropdown, and click "Visibility" on the left rail. In the "Visibility of your profile & network" section, users can click "Change" next to "Profile viewing options" and select the mode theyd like to browse in.
Its important to note that if a user has a Basic (free) account and chooses to browse in private mode, they wont be able to see whos viewed their profile either. However, if they have a Premium account, they can browse in private mode and still see the list of people who viewed their profile in the last 90 days. Additionally, users cannot block private mode viewers or make them reveal their names when viewing their profile, and LinkedIn always respects a members privacy settings, so even if a user has a Premium account, they cant view the names of private mode viewers of their own profile.
