The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) offers a certification program for pharmacy technicians called the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) Certification. This certification is nationally accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and is an important first step towards a rewarding career in healthcare. The PTCB CPhT Certification demonstrates a technicians knowledge and commitment to medication safety and effective patient care across pharmacy settings. Employers prefer and many require their pharmacy technicians to be PTCB CPhTs.

To be eligible to apply for PTCB CPhT Certification, an applicant must complete one of the following requirements:

  • Pathway 1: A PTCB-Recognized Education/Training Program (or completion within 60 days)
  • Pathway 2: Equivalent work experience as a pharmacy technician (min. 500 hours)

In addition, the applicant must pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) and be fully compliant with all of the PTCB Certification policies.
