Pune Karar is an agreement between Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on behalf of Dalits, depressed classes, and upper caste Hindu leaders on the reservation of electoral seats for the depressed classes in the legislature of British India. The agreement was signed on September 24, 1932, in Pune, India. The key points of the agreement were:

  • There shall be electoral seats reserved for the Depressed Classes out of the general electorate.
  • The number of seats to be reserved for the Depressed Classes shall be in proportion to their population in the Province.
  • In the Central Legislature, the Depressed Classes shall have seats reserved for them in the same proportion as in the Provincial Legislatures.

The agreement was significant because it marked a compromise between the two leaders and helped to secure political representation for the Dalits in India. Today, there are books and other media available on Pune Karar, including a book titled "Pune Karar - Sampoorna Itihaas" by Ambedkar Babasaheb.
