QuakeCon is a yearly gaming convention held by ZeniMax Media, typically in Dallas, Texas. It is known as North America's largest bring-your-own-computer (BYOC) LAN party event, where thousands of gamers gather to celebrate and promote the major franchises of id Software and other studios owned by ZeniMax. The event features competitive tournaments along with other activities such as community tournaments, meetups, giveaways, and tabletop events. Originally, QuakeCon grew out of an online IRC community centered around the game Quake and started as a small gathering that evolved into a large organized event. It has a reputation as the "Woodstock of gaming" with the motto "peace, love, and rockets." The event relies heavily on volunteers for setup, management, and troubleshooting. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the live event was replaced by online events in 2020, 2021, and 2022. It returned as an in-person event in 2023 in Grapevine, Texas. The event typically features tournaments with significant prize money and serves as a showcase for new games and gaming hardware related to id Software and its publisher partners. In 2025, QuakeCon continues as a major gaming event with BYOC community tournaments and other activities at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.
