In the TV series "Bridgerton," Queen Charlotte is seen sniffing a brown, powdered substance up her nose in several scenes. Although some viewers assumed that she was using cocaine, the substance is actually concentrated tobacco in the form of a powder that is ingested via snorting, known as snuff. The real Queen Sophia Charlotte, whom the character was inspired from, was famously known for her habit of using snuff, and even earned her the title of the “Snuffy Queen” . On set, the powder that the actress Golda Rosheuvel snorts during filming is a dyed sugar, which is harmless.
