Raise to Wake is a feature on iPhones that automatically wakes the Lock Screen when you lift your device. This feature is especially useful in low-light areas, as it immediately lights up when you lift your iPhone. With Raise to Wake, you can quickly check your notifications, access Control Center, swipe left to take a photo, or swipe right to access widgets. If you use an iPhone X or later, you can also tap your screen to check notifications, take a photo, or quickly access the flashlight.
To turn Raise to Wake on or off, go to Settings > Display & Brightness. On iPhone 8 or earlier, press the Home button to unlock your device. On iPhone X or later, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to unlock your device. If you don’t do anything, your iPhone will go back to sleep.
If you use Raise to Wake, raising and looking at your iPhone wakes your device as usual. You can also swipe up from the bottom of your display to wake your iPhone and activate Face ID authentication. If you turn off Raise to Wake, youll have to hit the home button (the button on the bottom of your iPhone) to awake your device.
To disable Raise to Wake, follow these steps:
- Open Settings.
- Scroll down to and tap on "Display and Brightness."
- Locate Raise to Wake.
- Toggle the button to gray to turn the feature off.
To turn Raise to Wake back on, repeat these steps and toggle the button to green.
