Swami Rama Tirtha (1873-1906) was an Indian teacher of the Hindu philosophy of Vedanta. He was born in a Punjabi Brahmin family in the village of Muraliwala in the Gujranwala District of Punjab, Pakistan. Rama Tirtha was a very bright student and a genius possessing unusual intelligence, contemplative nature, and an intrinsic love of mathematics and solitude. He received a masters degree in mathematics from The Government College of Lahore and became a professor of mathematics at Forman Christian College, Lahore. Rama Tirtha was among the first notable teachers of Hinduism to lecture in the United States, traveling there in 1902, preceded by Swami Vivekananda. He infused in the minds of people a new joy, a happy conviction that it was possible to rejoice in the bliss of the Self even in this very life. Rama Tirtha was a Vedantin of the highest realization, and Vedanta, according to him, is no dogma or blind faith, but the Reality of realities. He had the highest realization of the Satchidananda as the all-inclusive Bliss-supreme. Rama Tirthas teachings are disseminated through his works, including "In Woods of God-Realization," a seven-volume compilation of his complete works.
